Our Story

Faith. Love. Glory.

Providence Reformed Church is a growing community of believers from Erie County, Crawford County, and Warren County, Pennsylvania.  Currently a mission church in the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC), we first began meeting in homes in the Summer of 2022.  Since then, God has blessed us immensely, providing us with a beautiful building to meet in, as well as with growth in attendance, in obedience, and in our love for one another.

We believe the Christian life is about beholding Christ in faith, worshiping and obeying Him in love, and following Him through the cross and the grave to the glory on the other side.  Join us every week as we follow Jesus and make much of Him together!

Mission & Purpose

Our mission at Providence Reformed Church is to bring “all of Christ for all of life” to all of Erie County, Crawford County, and Warren County.  By God’s grace, we labor toward bringing the gospel of Jesus to Northwestern Pennsylvania through Covenant Renewal Worship on the Lord’s Day, through evangelism, through training of qualified leaders who can eventually plant more local churches.  We also seek to accomplish this through helping each of our members apply the full teaching of scripture to their lives in their marriage, parenting, education, vocation, community outreach, and cultural engagement with the arts, business, politics, and literature.  We seek to do all of this out of joyful obedience to and love for God, as well as out of love for our neighbors.

Our Beliefs & Values

Our We are a Protestant, Reformed, and Confessional congregation, adhering to the Ecumenical Creeds, the Three forms of Unity, and the Westminster Standards as correct interpretations of the Holy Scriptures.

Below, you’ll find a summary of what we believe:

Scripture is Inerrant

We believe the Creator God has chosen to uniquely declare His will for humanity through the 39 books of the Hebrew Old Testament, and through the 27 books of the New Testament.  These scriptures are infallible and inerrant in all matters upon which they touch.

 God is a Trinity

We believe this Creator God is the only living and true God, and that He is almighty, all-knowing, holy, eternal, and good.  Our God is one and undivided in essence, yet has declared Himself to be three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Man is Sinful

We believe that our first parents, Adam and Eve, rebelled against God and fell from their original innocence and communion with Him.  Because of Adam’s sin and their own personal sins, all men have fallen short of God’s glory, are spiritually dead in their sins, are wholly defiled in God’s sight, and are utterly indisposed to all good.

Christ’s Work Alone Saves

We believe that the Son of God, the second person of the trinity, took upon Himself man’s nature.  By His perfect obedience, His perfect sacrifice for our sins the cross, and His victorious resurrection from the dead, He bore God’s wrath and utterly defeated the powers of sin, death, and hell. His work alone achieves a perfect salvation for all of His people!

Salvation Comes by Grace, Through Faith

We believe that this perfect work of Christ is appropriated to us by grace alone.  It is wholly undeserved and unmerited – purchased for us by the perfect righteousness of Jesus.  We believe that this grace is received by faith alone – by accepting, receiving, and resting on Christ alone for salvation.  Genuine faith, however, will always bear fruit – working by love to God and neighbor.

Word and Sacrament Are the Means of Grace

We believe that faith itself is also a gift, wrought by God’s grace primarily through the faithful preaching of God’s word.  Additionally, it is by the hearing of God’s word, as well as by the practice of the sacraments (baptism and the Lord’s Supper) and prayer, that God graciously strengthens and increases our faith.  At PRC, we practice infant baptism and believers baptism (according to the convictions of each member family), and we observe the Lord’s Supper every week.

The Mission of the Church is to Declare the Gospel

We believe that Christ sends His redeemed people into the world as the Father sent Him.  The church is called to be Christ’s body, following Christ’s pattern of love, mercy, and sacrifice as we minister to the needs of of our communities and our world.  The focal point of this mission is evangelism.  Jesus has commanded us to declare His good news to all nations and to make disciples of them – baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Christ is Reigning and Will Return

We believe that, after His resurrection from the Dead, Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of the Father where He rules as Lord of all.  We further believe that He will, one day, return in the same manner by which he ascended.  When He does, he will judge the living and the dead, and restore His creation, reigning with His resurrected people over a renewed Heavens and Earth forever.
